- The TOEFL iBT Writing Section lasts for 50 minutes total.
There are two questions in the TOEFL iBT Writing Section. The Integrated Question and the Independent Question.
- The Integrated Question requires the test-taker to read a 200-300 word passage and then listen to a lecture (about 2 minutes long – similar to the TOEFL iBT Speaking Question 4) The test-taker then fulfills the task by writing a summary of the information presented within the reading passage and the spoken lecture, and how they are related.
- The Independent Question asks the test-taker his or her opinion on a specific subject, similar to Speaking Question number 2. The test-taker then fulfills the task by writing an essay on their opinion about the question.
The TOEFL iBT Writing Section tests a person’s ability to present one’s ideas in a clear, and well-organized manner, suitable for an academic writing situation.
